Regal hollywood screenx3/19/2023 The center projector is very beefy, a beast. Making the center screen and the side screens a seamless surface would help. The addition of the side screens was something I would see and say “huh, I guess that’s kinda cool.” It wasn’t groundbreaking or anything. A AcreenX ticket is a $4.28 surcharge with Regal Unlimited and $15.77 at full price, it’s comparable to a RPX ticket and less expensive than an “IMAX” (LieMAX) ticket. The upgrade of the center laser projector itself was a nice step above the standard auditorium. As you can see, the exit signs and emergency exit cut into the side screens, this along with the sim brightness broke the immersion at times. It doesn’t help that the side walls are an off grey instead of the pure white of the center screen. The side projectors were significantly more dim than the center projector, it was painfully noticeable during bright scenes. Unfortunately, these side projectors did not match the quality or brightness of the center projector screen. These projectors filled virtually the entire side walls with image. The side screens were projected onto by several short throw projectors mounted at the top of the walls. If a character’s head is clipped off the side of the frame in the core movie, it continues into the suplemental imagery. You could see characters appear in the side imagery before they appear in the core movie. Not the case for Black Widow, it looked like it was shot on set along with the main camera. I’ve read that Spiderman Far From Home was not a great ScreenX experience because the suplemental imagery was poorly done CGI. Dialogue heavy scenes only used the center screen and the side screens lit up during action or scenic shots. The side walls have suplemental imagery projected onto them, and it appears during select scenes, like IMAX. It’s a very big center screen too, comparable to retrofitted IMAX and RPX screens. Contrary to what the trailers on the ScreenX YouTube channel show, the center screen is 2.39:1 scope aspect ratio, it showed the core movie in its true aspect ratio with no letterboxing. However, it did not feature the inky deep near perfect blacks that Dolby Cinema is famous for, and it wasn’t graded in HDR.
